The Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) and the ATLAS Institute at the University of Colorado Boulder are collaborating to host the 28th annual Accessing Higher Ground: Accessible Media, Web and Technology Conference. The event will take place from November 17 to 21 at the Hilton Denver City Center, with both in-person and virtual participation options available.

Early registration for virtual attendance closes on Friday. The conference will feature more than 100 onsite sessions and 42 virtual sessions, covering topics such as accessible documents, PDFs, video content, Canvas pages, and alternative formats. Sessions will also address legal and policy issues, including ADA Title II requirements, Section 508 and ADA compliance, campus accommodations, universal design, and curriculum accessibility.

The event is designed for IT professionals, media specialists, course designers, and faculty members interested in improving accessibility in higher education settings.

Mia Ives-Rublee, senior director for the Disability Justice Initiative at American Progress, will deliver the keynote address titled “A Political War on Disability: Eugenics, the Ugly Laws, and How We Can Fight Back.” According to the organizers: “Before joining American Progress, she advocated for disability justice and inclusion at nonprofit organizations and businesses across the United States. She has worked with the Women’s March, Families Belong Together, DC Action Lab and numerous other progressive organizations. She will talk about disability rights in the current environment and how to respond.”

University of Colorado Boulder affiliates who register with their campus email address are eligible for a 5% discount on registration fees. As CU Boulder is an institutional member of AHEAD, its affiliates also receive a 10% discount.

More information about the conference agenda can be found on the official site at https://accessinghigherground.org/. For questions about the event or registration, contact Howard Kramer at 720-351-8668 or hkramer@colorado.edu.
