Alison George, the Director of the Division of Housing at the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), has announced her retirement after 15 years with the department. Her retirement will be effective October 15, 2025.

George joined DOLA in 2010 and has overseen significant growth within the Division of Housing, which expanded from 38 employees to 192 during her tenure. She is credited with helping to create or preserve nearly 20,000 affordable housing units and over 2,500 homeownership units. Since the state fiscal year 2020-2021, more than 64,000 Coloradans have received emergency housing assistance under her leadership.

Maria De Cambra, Executive Director of DOLA, praised George’s commitment: “We are saying goodbye to one of the most passionate individuals I’ve had the pleasure of working with in the housing space,” said De Cambra. “Alison has always advocated about the profound effect of providing a safe, stable home for those who need it most. Our state will be forever grateful to Alison for everything she’s given to the Division of Housing, DOLA and the people of Colorado.”

Reflecting on her time at DOLA, George stated: “Working at the Division of Housing with tremendous thought partners, dedicated and passionate staff, and leaders has been a treasured honor for me. Our partners have great dreams and vision, and as a State partner, we support making those visions a reality and turn dreams into homes.”

During her career at DOLA, George guided the division through major challenges such as addressing tightening housing markets during the Great Recession and leading efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. The division became Colorado’s largest recipient of stimulus funds—managing $1.5 billion—and implemented emergency rental programs like Property Owner Preservation and Emergency Rental Assistance that served tens of thousands across Colorado.

She also played a role in launching permanent initiatives such as Colorado Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA). In addition to her work within Colorado, George serves as Board President for the Council of State Community Development Agencies (COSCDA) and led efforts related to homeless management information systems.

The Department plans to post an opening for a new Division of Housing Director soon on its career page. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
