Applications are now open for the American Medical Association (AMA) Foundation’s 2026 Physicians of Tomorrow (PoT) Scholarships and Excellence in Medicine Awards.

The PoT Scholarships offer $10,000 in tuition assistance to medical students who are entering their final year and will graduate in 2027. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school in the United States and must be either a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or have DACA status. Students in five-year programs, dual-degree tracks, or those taking a research year can apply during their third year or just before their final year of study. The application deadline is Monday, February 9, 2026, at 10:59 p.m. MT. Scholarship funds will be distributed in spring 2026 for use during the 2026-27 academic year.

According to the AMA Foundation, “With 18 scholarship categories in a variety of focus areas, the AMA Foundation awards scholarships to a diverse cohort of medical students each year.” The organization also notes that “AMA membership or non-membership is not taken into consideration when determining recipients.”

Medical students interested in applying can begin their application process at https://amafoundation.secure-platform.com/a.

In addition to scholarships for students, nominations are open for the AMA Foundation’s 2026 Excellence in Medicine Awards (EIM). These awards recognize physicians and medical advocates who demonstrate outstanding volunteerism, community engagement, leadership, and dedication to underserved populations. Nominations are due by Friday, January 30, 2026, at 10:59 p.m. MT.

Recipients of the EIM Awards will be honored at a ceremony during the AMA House of Delegates Annual Meeting in Chicago next June. Awardees receive a $2,500 grant honorarium designated for a health-focused nonprofit organization of their choice.
