The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 31 that it will begin installing cable rail in the median of Interstate 25 just north of Pueblo, with work set to start on April 6. The project will cover the stretch between Mile Point 108.5 and Mile Point 114.1.
The department said this installation is aimed at improving safety for motorists by acting as a barrier to prevent vehicles from crossing the median into oncoming traffic lanes. The work will also include grading, cleaning culverts and inlets for drainage, installing a weed barrier, and updating existing guardrails.
During construction, which is scheduled from Sunday through Thursday between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., drivers can expect median shoulder closures and some inside single lane closures within the work zone. Motorists are urged to drive with caution, heed all signs, and leave plenty of following distance when traveling through the area. Construction schedules may change depending on weather conditions.
According to the official website, the Colorado Department of Transportation works to improve quality of life for residents through integrated transportation solutions and aims to deliver an effective multi-modal system that safely transports people, goods, and information while enhancing environmental standards in Colorado. The department oversees transportation infrastructure across the state—including interstates, U.S., and state highways—and administers grants for aviation and transit projects according to its official website. Shoshana Lew serves as executive director for the agency as indicated by its official website.
