The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), working with Martin Marietta, has announced a winter shutdown for the resurfacing project on US Highway 24 from Florissant to Woodland Park. The suspension will begin on November 20, 2025, and is intended to protect both workers and drivers during the winter months. Work is scheduled to resume in the summer of 2026.
The project began in late April, focusing on resurfacing US 24 from Mile Point 269.4 in Florissant to Mile Point 281 just west of Woodland Park. It also included work on Colorado Highway 67 in Woodland Park from Mile Point 76.9 at the US 24/CO 67 intersection to Mile Point 77.5 near Red Feather Lane.
During the construction season in 2025, crews milled existing asphalt, applied new surfacing, installed guardrails, and replaced curb and gutter sections. CDOT states that “the new asphalt will add approximately 10 years of life to the highway, provide a smoother road surface and add durability by increasing the resistance of ruts and road damage.” Additional improvements include new guardrails set at a height of 31 inches to meet updated safety standards. According to CDOT, these changes are aimed at making the highway safer for travelers.
When construction resumes next summer, crews plan to complete side street work and apply permanent striping. This final step requires warmer weather so that materials adhere properly.
