The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on Apr. 28 that construction will begin May 4 to improve safety at Interstate 25, Exit 14 in Trinidad. The project, conducted with Concrete Works of Colorado, is scheduled to continue through the end of September.

The project aims to realign the southbound off-ramp into a straighter configuration and replace asphalt with concrete paving. This change is expected to enhance visibility and create safer driving conditions, especially for larger trucks that currently face challenges due to a sharp curve in the existing ramp layout.

“This realignment, in combination with a new concrete road surface, will provide a smoother road surface and route when exiting the I-25, enhancing the safety of the traveling public,” said Region 2 Transportation Director Shane Ferguson.

Construction will take place in two phases. The first phase will be built off-road with minimal impact on traffic. In late summer during phase two, there will be a two-week closure of the southbound off-ramp at Exit 14. During this period, traffic will be detoured via I-25 Exit 13. Beginning May 4, work hours are set from Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., with San Pedro Street closed from Colorado Avenue (Exit 14 offramp) to Commercial Street until August.

According to the official website, the Colorado Department of Transportation works to improve quality of life for residents by providing integrated transportation solutions across Colorado. The department also seeks an effective multi-modal system that safely moves people and goods while maintaining environmental standards according to its official website. Shoshana Lew serves as executive director for CDOT as indicated by its official website.

As outlined on its official website, CDOT oversees transportation infrastructure statewide and is responsible for building and maintaining interstates as well as U.S. and state highways while administering grants for aviation and transit projects according to CDOT’s official site. The department operates within the transportation sector focusing on highway maintenance along with support for aviation and transit services as per its official site.
