The U.S. Census Bureau has published new data tables from the Annual Survey of State Government Finances, providing a summary of state government finances for fiscal year 2024. The release includes information on revenue sources, expenditures, and debt levels for each state.

These statistics are used by federal, state, and local governments as well as educational and research organizations for comparative studies. They also support activities such as the development of the government component of gross domestic product.

The survey is conducted annually and serves as a supplement to the broader Annual Survey of State and Local Government Finances.

According to the Census Bureau, “Federal, state and local governments, and educational and research organizations use the data for comparative studies and other activities like developing the government component of the gross domestic product.”

There is no separate news release associated with this data; it was distributed as a tip sheet only.
