Coastal Transportation has chosen Inmarsat NexusWave to provide secure and reliable connectivity across its fleet. The company operates between Seattle, Washington, and ports in Western Alaska, where dependable communication is essential for both operational needs and crew welfare. Coastal Transportation handles complex cargo inventories and recognizes the growing risks from cyber threats, making robust digital infrastructure a priority.
NexusWave offers a secure-by-design system with segregated networks to enhance cyber resilience. The service provides managed, bonded connectivity with global coverage and network availability above 99.9%. This ensures that vessels remain connected to high-speed internet throughout their routes from Seattle to Dutch Harbor.
Stephanie Grisham, Technical Program Manager at Coastal Transportation, stated: “Upgrading to Inmarsat NexusWave was a natural next step for our cargo fleet. NexusWave is the only connectivity solution on the market that delivers the levels of security and reliability we need to support safe and efficient operations from port to port. We also value the convenience it offers as a single solution from one provider that seamlessly combines the capabilities of multiple services.”
Logan Murray, Sales Account Manager at Inmarsat Maritime, said: “We are delighted to extend our longstanding relationship with Coastal Transportation – the latest in a fast-growing cohort of operators that appreciate the unique value of fully managed, bonded connectivity as an enabler of safe, efficient, and secure fleet operations.”
Viasat acquired Inmarsat in May 2023. The combined entity aims to build a comprehensive global communications network supporting connections on land, in air, or at sea. Viasat’s headquarters are located in London for its international business segment.
