The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 27 that it will start the Interstate 70 Seibert–Stratton Roadway Improvements project in early April, with work scheduled to continue until October 2027 and a winter shutdown planned between October 2026 and April 2027.
The project aims to address deteriorating infrastructure along I-70 east and west of Seibert, from Mile Points 401 to 407, as well as on Colorado Highway 57 (Colorado Avenue) in Stratton between I-70 and US Highway 24. The department said initial work will focus on constructing crossover detours for head-to-head traffic flow, allowing crews to operate safely while maintaining traffic movement through the area.
Key improvements include replacing aging concrete pavement, rehabilitating bridges by resurfacing decks with new overlays, replacing joints, making structural repairs under the bridge deck, updating guardrails and signage, installing new delineators, and applying fresh pavement striping. The department said these upgrades are intended to improve safety for drivers and extend the lifespan of both roadways and structures.
Work on CO 57 within Stratton will involve milling existing surfaces followed by a hot-mix asphalt overlay for smoother travel. Select curb and gutter sections will be reconstructed along with additional signage updates. Resurfacing is also planned for on-ramps and off-ramps at the Seibert and Stratton interchanges; this may require temporary ramp closures or shifts in traffic during paving operations.
According to the official website, the Colorado Department of Transportation works to improve quality of life through integrated transportation solutions across Colorado. The department oversees transportation infrastructure statewide—including interstates, U.S. highways, state highways—and administers grants for aviation and transit projects according to its official website. Shoshana Lew serves as executive director according to information provided online.
Daytime construction hours are set from Monday through Friday beginning half an hour before sunrise until half an hour after sunset; weekend work may occur depending on weather or other delays.
