Guide learners to think critically, act responsibly, and engage with the world around them. The Colorado Education Association has released its recommendations for September’s Read Across America books, aiming to encourage meaningful learning across different age groups.
For elementary students, the suggested book is “Some of Us: A Story of Citizenship and the United States” by Rajani LaRocca. This book explores various paths to citizenship and highlights the contributions of people who work to participate in democracy.
Middle grade readers are encouraged to read “True or False? The Science of Perception, Misinformation, and Disinformation” by Jacqueline B. Toner. The book investigates how people form beliefs and why misinformation can persist.
For young adults, “Shift Happens” by J. Albert Mann is recommended. It covers the history of worker actions and examines how the labor movement has influenced America.
The association provides additional resources for educators seeking more materials related to Read Across America.
