The Colorado Department of Natural Resources has launched ColoradoRiver.com, a new website aimed at providing comprehensive information and resources about the Colorado River. The announcement was made by Governor Jared Polis during the Colorado Water Congress in Steamboat Springs.
“I am excited to announce today that we are launching ColoradoRiver.com as the official source for all information on our namesake river,” said Gov. Polis. “Colorado has always been the leader in the basin. This website will serve as an educational hub with maps, snowpack and flow data, and policy discussions, all managed here at the source in Colorado.”
The unveiling of the site coincides with efforts to highlight Colorado’s leadership in river management and cooperation throughout the region. The Colorado River is vital to communities, agriculture, and recreation within the state.
The river supports more than 40 million people and 30 Tribal Nations across seven U.S. states and Mexico. It also irrigates over 5 million acres of farmland and sustains a $1.4 trillion economy. The new website addresses both historical context and present-day issues, focusing on sustainable management practices that prioritize available water supply.
“I’m excited to connect with people across the Basin in ways that help them understand the Colorado River and stay informed on the work to keep it sustainable for generations to come,” said Becky Mitchell, Colorado’s Commissioner to the Upper Colorado River Commission. “ColoradoRiver.com is a place to see the full picture of what this resource means to millions across the West — so people can understand the stakes, and why we’re working hard to protect it.”
Key features of ColoradoRiver.com include interactive maps detailing water usage along the river, real-time updates on reservoir levels and snowpack conditions, educational materials about river history and environmental challenges, news from around the basin, and downloadable resources for further study.
The public is encouraged to visit ColoradoRiver.com for information about ongoing projects related to water sustainability in Colorado. Updates are also available via @CORiverHeadwaters on Instagram.
