Colorado Springs announces facility closures and events for Labor Day

Many City of Colorado Springs administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, in observance of Labor Day. The closures include the City Administration Building, City Clerk, Municipal Court, Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Administration Building, and several community centers and recreational facilities.

Mountain Metropolitan Transit administrative offices and the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum will also be closed. Other affected locations are Colorado Springs Tennis, Deerfield Hills Community Center, Hillside Community Center, Meadows Park Community Center, Memorial Park Recreation Center, Otis Park Community Center, Sales Tax Office, Sertich Ice Center, and the Sports and Therapeutic Recreation Programs Office in Memorial Park.

Some city-operated facilities will remain open for normal business hours during the holiday. The Deerfield Hills Spray Ground will operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday through Monday; Sept. 1 marks its final day of operation this year.

Garden of the Gods Park will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., with fall hours starting Nov. 1 when it closes at 9 p.m.

The Julie Penrose Fountain at America the Beautiful Park is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday with specific session times separated by safety breaks; Sept. 1 is its last operational day for the season.

Patty Jewett Golf Course will open at 7 a.m.; public play begins after noon on Sunday following a championship event.

Panorama Park Spray Ground remains open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., ending operations for the year after Labor Day.

Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain gates are open between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., weather permitting; summit access ends at 7 p.m., downhill gates close at 8 p.m., with adjusted fall hours beginning Sept. 2.

Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., hosting its annual Labor Day Vintage Base Ball game at 1 p.m.

The Water Hole at Venezia Park operates in time slots between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.; Sept. 1 is its last day this year.

Uncle Wilber Fountain in Acacia Park is open from noon to six; it also concludes seasonal operations after Labor Day.

Valley Hi Golf Course opens at seven each morning; public play starts after noon on Saturday following an event.

Additionally, Memorial Park hosts the 49th annual Labor Day Lift Off from Aug. 30 through Sept. 1—a free hot air balloon festival produced by Hot Apple Productions alongside Colorado Springs Sports Corporation and Rainbow Ryders Hot Air Balloon Company partners. Attendees are advised to plan ahead due to large crowds expected. Handicap parking will be available in Sertich Ice Center lots accessed via Pikes Peak Avenue and Union on a first-come basis.
