The City of Colorado Springs announced on April 15 a series of free events and volunteer opportunities in recognition of Earth Day, which falls on Wednesday, April 22. Residents are invited to participate in activities that focus on environmental stewardship, education, and community engagement.

These initiatives aim to encourage local involvement in preserving the environment while offering educational experiences for people of all ages. The city will host several events including the annual Garden of the Gods Earth Day Celebration, park cleanups, watershed restoration projects, and a downtown community cleanup.

The 29th Annual Garden of the Gods Earth Day Celebration will take place on Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center located at 1805 N. 30th St. This event will feature interactive activities such as demonstrations, educational booths, crafts, and live animal experiences. Organizers say it is designed to celebrate Earth Day while promoting green thinking and environmental awareness. Free parking is available at the Visitor Center with additional parking across the street in Parking Lot #1.

Another major initiative is “3Days3Parks,” a citywide volunteer effort running from Friday, April 24 through Sunday, April 26. Activities include trash cleanup at Blodgett Open Space on Friday; rogue trail closure and restoration work at Palmer Park’s Yucca Flats on Saturday; and trash cleanup along with social trail restoration at Ute Valley Park on Sunday. All skill levels are encouraged to participate in these efforts organized by local friends groups dedicated to each park.

Other scheduled activities include Downtown Community Cleanup Day set for Tuesday, April 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., where local businesses can join ambassadors for cleaning outdoor areas downtown; as well as participation in the Great American Cleanup hosted by Fountain Creek Watershed District and Keep Colorado Springs Beautiful on Saturday, May 2.

More information about specific event details or registration can be found online through event organizers’ websites.
