After more than a decade of service to the City of Colorado Springs, Chief of Staff Jamie Fabos has announced she will leave her position effective February 16. Fabos played a significant role in supporting Mayor Yemi Mobolade’s administration and leading several city initiatives.
Mayor Mobolade praised Fabos’ contributions, stating: “Jamie brought a no-nonsense, ‘get it done’ energy to our work. She is an exceptional operator who earned the trust of her team by consistently supporting and empowering the people around her. My administration benefited greatly from her ability to manage multiple priorities, reorganize operations for maximum effectiveness, and keep critical projects moving with speed and precision. Across more than a decade of service—and two administrations—Jamie helped launch many of the initiatives now shaping our city’s future, leaving a lasting mark on the City of Colorado Springs. We will miss her deeply and are profoundly grateful for her leadership and dedication.”
During her tenure, Fabos was involved in designing programs such as Keep it Clean and Safe, which addressed homelessness along key corridors in the city. She also worked on police staffing issues, helping the Colorado Springs Police Department surpass 800 officers for the first time. In addition, she contributed to balancing the city’s budget by implementing efficiencies that helped address multi-year deficits.
Fabos was instrumental in legislation allowing the Colorado Springs Fire Department to join Colorado’s Firefighter Heart and Cancer Trust, providing medical support for first responders. She also managed department reorganization efforts aimed at improving efficiency and collaboration across city services.
Reflecting on her time with the city, Fabos said: “It’s been an honor to serve the city I’ve called home for over 20 years. A sports professional at heart, I never planned to work in government, but the last 10 years have been eye-opening as far as the quality of the employees, the amount of work they complete with extremely limited resources, and their dedication to public service. It has been a great honor to lead this fantastic team of people, and I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved.”
Before becoming Chief of Staff in 2023 under Mayor Mobolade, Fabos served as Chief Communications Officer during Mayor John Suthers’ administration for eight years. Between those roles she was General Manager of Public Affairs at Colorado Springs Utilities.
As Chief Communications Officer, she led communications during major events such as managing messaging throughout COVID-19 disruptions and handling national media attention following incidents like the Planned Parenthood shooting. She also oversaw rebranding efforts positioning Colorado Springs as Olympic City USA.
Deputy Chief of Staff Travis Easton will become Acting Chief of Staff while a national search begins for Fabos’ replacement; local candidates will be prioritized.
