The Colorado Springs City Council will hold a Special Meeting on April 6 to appoint a new Councilmember for the vacant District 2 seat. The meeting is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, following an application period that ran from March 12 to March 26.

The appointment process matters because it determines who will represent District 2 residents until the next municipal election, affecting local governance and community representation.

Six candidates are under consideration: Polly Cambron, Cindy Carter, Ken Casey, Anita Miller, Shawn Murray, and Dan Spohn. Each candidate will have five minutes to address the council on why they are qualified for the position. After their statements, councilmembers will ask follow-up questions with responses limited to three minutes per question.

After all candidates have been interviewed, members of the public may comment for up to three minutes each about the potential appointees. The council will then deliberate and vote. A majority of five out of eight councilmembers is required for appointment.

The appointed individual will serve a partial term ending in April 2027. At that time, a two-year term for District 2 will be on the ballot during the municipal election. The appointed member may run in this election if desired. From April 2029 onward, District 2 elections return to their standard four-year cycle.

The new councilmember is expected to be sworn in at the start of the Work Session on April 13.
