Educators in Colorado Springs have announced a one-day strike set for October 8, 2025. The Colorado Springs Education Association (CSEA) issued a statement outlining the reasons behind the planned walkout.
According to CSEA President Kevin Coughlin, “This October, educators in Colorado Springs will strike. This strike is not about politics; it is about providing our students with the schools they deserve.
“Every child in our district deserves a safe classroom, educators who can give them one-on-one attention, and the resources they need to thrive. But instead of working with educators to make this a reality, district leaders have chosen to prioritize politics and division over real solutions. They’ve stripped away protections for educators and dragged our schools into culture wars that distract from what matters most: educating kids.
“We are united with parents, families, and community members who want to keep politics out of our classrooms and keep great teachers in them. This fight is bigger than one contract; it’s about protecting public education itself. What happens in Colorado Springs will set a precedent for the rest of the state: if extremists succeed here, they won’t stop in D11. They’ll take aim at other local unions, other districts, and the very foundation of public education across Colorado.
“When we protect educators, we protect students. That’s why we are standing together this October. Our students are worth it. Our community is worth it. And together, we will keep fighting for the strong public schools Colorado Springs families deserve.”
The CSEA’s statement highlights concerns over educator protections being removed and political disputes affecting school policy decisions in District 11.
