Colorado Springs released on Mar. 20 a list of the 25 best hiking and biking trails in the area, offering options for all skill levels and interests.
The list aims to help residents and visitors find suitable outdoor activities while encouraging responsible trail use. The city also reminds users to respect fellow hikers and bikers by following recommended trail etiquette.
Among the highlighted locations is Garden of the Gods Park, which features both paved and natural trails winding through red rock formations with views of Pikes Peak. Red Rock Canyon Open Space offers a variety of routes along canyons and ridges, as well as off-leash dog loops and a bike park. Cheyenne Mountain State Park provides over 20 miles of trails across diverse ecosystems, though it requires a $10 per vehicle entrance fee.
Other notable sites include Palmer Park, known for its mesa views; Bear Creek Dog Park, recognized nationally as a top dog park; Barr Trail, which leads to the summit of Pikes Peak; and Manitou Incline, famous for its steep ascent requiring an online reservation. Several parks offer amenities such as off-leash areas for dogs or facilities like restrooms and agility courses.
Trails range from easy walks through Fountain Creek Park’s marshes to challenging climbs like Pancake Rocks Trail near Woodland Park. Some areas, such as Paint Mines Interpretive Park and Mueller State Park, do not allow dogs but provide unique geological features or wildlife viewing opportunities.
The city encourages everyone to “respect your fellow hiking and biking enthusiast and take a few minutes to learn how to keep our natural wonders wonderful for years to come.”
