Mayor Yemi Mobolade of Colorado Springs has called on the community to support residents who may be affected by the expiration of SNAP benefits on November 1. In a statement, Mayor Mobolade said, “In Colorado Springs, we will not stand by while our neighbors go hungry, not our children, not our seniors, and not our residents living with disabilities. As SNAP benefits expire on November 1, I am calling on our entire community — residents, nonprofits, faith leaders, and businesses — to rise to this moment with compassion and action.”
He encouraged those in need to seek assistance from local organizations and urged those able to donate food or funds to support area food banks and partners. “If you are in need, help is available. Local organizations across our city are ready to serve you. And if you are able to give, I urge you to support our food banks and community partners with monetary or food donations,” he said.
The mayor also acknowledged his limited authority over federal programs but emphasized his commitment to supporting the city’s residents during difficult times: “While I may not have authority over federal programs like SNAP, I do have a responsibility to stand with our residents in times of hardship. Colorado Springs has always shown its heart in moments like these, and I know we will step up again.”
