The City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services (PRCS) Department has been reaccredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA), as announced during the 2025 National Recreation and Park Association Annual Conference. This reaccreditation places PRCS among a select group of park and recreation agencies nationwide.

CAPRA accreditation is held by less than 3% of park and recreation agencies in the United States. The distinction indicates that PRCS meets national standards related to parks, programs, and safety practices. The department first achieved this recognition in 2020 and has now completed the reaccreditation process.

“Achieving reaccreditation is a significant milestone for our department and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team,” said Britt Haley, Director of PRCS. “Many people choose to live in Colorado Springs because of our beautiful parks, open spaces, and exceptional recreational opportunities. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our staff, who continually rise to the occasion, delivering excellence in service even amidst challenging demands. We are committed and proud to serve our community and ensure that our service and amenities remain a cherished part of what makes our City a wonderful place to call home.”

To receive CAPRA accreditation, PRCS had to meet 154 established standards covering policies, procedures, management practices, and service delivery. The process included submitting an application, conducting self-assessments, hosting a site visit from CAPRA evaluators, preparing a written report, and participating in a hearing with the commission.

Colorado Springs PRCS is one of only 231 accredited agencies across the country. It joins thirteen other accredited organizations within Colorado.

After reaccreditation, PRCS must continue annual reporting requirements as part of maintaining its status. The next scheduled review will take place in 2030.
