The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum (CSPM) is participating in Arts Month this October, an event coordinated by the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region. The museum invites both residents and visitors to engage with its exhibits and public programs focused on art.

A key feature during this month is the “50% of the Story: Women Expressing Creativity” exhibit, which CSPM describes as the first permanent women’s-only exhibition in Colorado. The exhibit aims to broaden representation within the museum’s collection to better reflect the diversity and complexity of the Pikes Peak region.

Leah Davis Witherow, CSPM curator of history, stated, “In addition to the over 150 pieces on exhibit in the ‘50% of the Story gallery’, the CSPM has added over two dozen new pieces of art to the CSPM’s permanent collection and will continue to actively collect in the years to come. We are thrilled to incorporate these new works into the ‘50% of the Story’ exhibit to unveil a new experience as part of the region’s celebration of art.”

The museum has also introduced an online component for those interested in exploring artworks and artists’ stories virtually at cspm.org/exhibits/50-of-the-story.

Additional information about Arts Month activities and registration can be found at cspm.org/arts-month.

Support for “50% of the Story: Women Expressing Creativity” comes from private donations, including a major contribution from The John and Margot Lane Foundation.

Throughout October, CSPM will host several events:
– Guided tours titled “CREATEing in Colorado Springs” take place on Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 11 a.m., with free admission; registration is encouraged at cspm.org/programs-and-events/.
