The City of Colorado Springs is seeking public input on proposed updates to its sign regulations. The changes aim to modernize the City’s sign standards, taking into account advances in technology, industry practices, and federal requirements. The update is intended to support safety, economic growth, and the city’s visual character.
A community meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department Hearing Room. City staff will present the proposed changes, answer questions, and collect feedback from attendees.
The current sign code was last revised in 2012. Since then, new technologies and materials have changed how businesses and organizations use signs. The proposed update will bring the code in line with content-neutral regulations and the city’s priorities for economic vitality and infrastructure. The changes are also designed to make the Unified Development Code clearer and more consistent for land use and development.
The city outlined several main goals for the update: restructuring the ordinance to match development standards, adding criteria for coordinated sign plans on unique properties, refining rules for electronic message centers, and improving maintenance requirements for signs. These changes are intended to improve public safety and the city’s appearance.
