Colorado Springs Utilities has received the Champion of Well-Being Emerging Leader Award from Health Links, a nonprofit organization focused on worker health and well-being. The award recognizes the utility’s efforts to create a supportive work environment for its employees.
Sara Akins, who was recently appointed as Safety and Health Manager, accepted the award at the Health Links Annual Event. Akins has played a key role in shaping the company’s workplace culture initiatives.
“It’s really exciting to see our efforts recognized in this way,” said Akins. “We’ve been working hard to create a culture where people feel supported in every aspect of their lives—not just at work. This award shows we’re on the right track.”
The company’s approach is guided by Total Worker Health, a philosophy developed by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). This strategy goes beyond traditional safety practices by considering employees’ physical and mental health, financial stability, and engagement with their community.
By supporting employee well-being through these methods, Colorado Springs Utilities aims to ensure that staff are able to provide reliable services to the community.
