Colorado’s Department of the Treasury is urging residents and organizations to check for unclaimed property, highlighting that major professional sports teams such as the Colorado Rockies, Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets, and Colorado Avalanche are among those with money waiting to be claimed.

“Unclaimed property belongs to people and organizations across Colorado—including some of our most beloved sports teams,” said Colorado State Treasurer Dave Young. “We want to get these funds back to where they belong, whether that’s helping Colorado families, businesses, or even a professional franchise. Make a play to recover your lost funds. You may score big!”

The Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division currently holds more than $2 billion in assets for over 15 million property owners. These assets include items like old refund checks, forgotten gift cards, and valuables from safe deposit boxes such as a Lou Gehrig baseball card.

“Every year, new funds are reported to our office, and we work to make sure they get back to the right people and organizations,” said Unclaimed Property Director Bianca Gardelli. “If these dollars can make a difference for big teams, imagine how much they can help schools, local businesses, or families across Colorado.”

In an effort to increase awareness about unclaimed property, outreach staff from the division assisted fans at three Colorado Rockies games this summer by helping them search the database and start claims on site.

The Treasury encourages all Coloradans to use the free service at GreatCOPayback.com to see if they have unclaimed assets.
