The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on March 23 that it will begin installing conflict warning systems at intersections in Douglas and Jefferson counties. The work, carried out with contract partner Sturgeon Electric, will take place along Colorado Highway 74, Colorado Highway 83, and Colorado Highway 86.
The installation of these systems aims to reduce crashes at intersections with poor visibility or high accident rates. Conflict warning systems use sensors and flashing lights to alert drivers about potential hazards as they approach dangerous intersections.
Work will start at the intersection of CO 83 and Gillian Avenue between Mile Point (MP) 37 and MP 38, then move to CO 83 and Russellville Road between MP 41 and MP 40. Next, crews will install a system at CO 86 and Deerfield Road at MP 11 before finishing the project at CO 74 and Kerr Gulch at MP 1. The department expects all installations to be completed by early summer.
