On October 15, 2025, Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) K9 Roam was seriously injured while trying to apprehend a suspect. Roam underwent multiple surgeries, including an amputation of his left hind leg, and has been recovering at a veterinary hospital. He is scheduled to be discharged on October 18, 2025.

CSPD expressed appreciation for the care provided to Roam. “CSPD extends our sincere gratitude to the veterinarians, surgeons, nurses, and staff at Animal ER Care, whose exceptional skill and compassion saved Roam’s life.”

After his release, Roam and his handler will be escorted from the veterinary hospital by CSPD personnel in marked police vehicles. The escort will travel past Roam’s assigned division, the Specialized Enforcement Division, on Fountain Boulevard just east of South Academy Boulevard. The escort will not use emergency lights or sirens, and there are no expected impacts to traffic.

The public and media are invited to show support for Roam along Fountain Boulevard from Academy Park Loop to Powers Boulevard, beginning at 11:00 AM on Saturday. Roam and his handler are expected to pass through the area around 11:15 AM.

CSPD has asked those attending not to park on Fountain Boulevard or Academy Boulevard and to use sidewalks for gathering. Details on where to stand are provided in an accompanying image.

Twenty minutes after the procession, CSPD Public Communication Specialist Caitlin Ford will be available for a brief interview outside the CSPD Sand Creek Substation.
