The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is preparing for a snowstorm expected to bring hazardous driving conditions to the Front Range on Wednesday morning. While minimal impacts are anticipated Tuesday evening, CDOT warns that commutes from Colorado Springs north to Wyoming could be affected by freezing ice beneath light snow cover.

CDOT crews will be working across the state as the storm moves in, beginning in Western Colorado and progressing eastward overnight. The department advises drivers to consult COtrip.org or use the COtrip Planner app before starting their journeys on Wednesday.

“Just like we saw last week, it only takes a little precipitation and those cold temperatures can make roads very slick,” said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew. “Commuters should allow for extra time getting to work on Wednesday and take it slow.”

The agency explained that safety closures may be implemented during inclement weather. These closures are intended to reduce traffic incidents and congestion by stopping vehicles on the interstate, turning them around, or directing them to exits when necessary. Safety closures are designed to minimize delays and keep travelers safe.
