Etihad Airways has expanded its partnership with Viasat to enhance in-flight connectivity across the majority of its fleet. The agreement covers both widebody and narrowbody aircraft, including the newly introduced Airbus A321LR fleet. These aircraft will be equipped with the Viasat Amara solution, which uses global Ka-band satellites, partner satellites, and upcoming low Earth orbit (LEO) partner satellites to provide high-speed internet access.

Passengers on Etihad flights will be able to use their personal devices for streaming subscriptions, browse social media, shop online, and more. Live TV will also be available on seatback screens, offering a variety of news and sports channels.

The new Airbus A321LR fleet began commercial service in August 2025 and is factory-installed with Viasat’s connectivity system. The airline’s new A350s, scheduled for delivery from April 2025, will also feature this technology. These join the Boeing 787 Dreamliners that have included Viasat equipment since entering service in 2023.

According to Etihad, enhancing digital services is central to its guest experience strategy. The company believes that investing in advanced connectivity solutions helps deliver a consistent and premium onboard experience.

Meherwan Polad, Chief Commercial Officer at Viasat Aviation, stated: “Airlines today have a choice: they can opt for a simple connection, or they can invest in a platform that allows for scalability and brand ownership. We’re thrilled that Etihad will benefit from the long-term value of our innovation pipeline, which will bring exceptional in-flight Wi-Fi experiences to its guests through multi-orbit capabilities and next-generation hardware for years to come. We look forward to continuing to support Etihad as they continue to turn their ambitious vision for the in-flight experience into a reality.”

Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer for Etihad said: “Our guests expect the same seamless digital experience in the air as they enjoy on the ground. With Viasat’s advanced connectivity across our fleet, travellers can stream their favourite shows, play games, take video calls, catch live sports, stay connected with loved ones, or simply browse and shop at high speed. This partnership also ensures Etihad has access to Viasat’s latest technology as it evolves, keeping us at the forefront of in-flight connectivity. It’s about giving our guests the freedom to enjoy their flight time exactly as they choose.”

Viasat Amara provides airlines with scalable technology designed for integration across multiple networks and orbits while maintaining quality of service during periods of high demand.
