Traffic on Garden of the Gods Road, east of Interstate 25, will be reduced to one lane in each direction beginning at 8 p.m. on March 11 and continuing through 5 a.m. on March 12 as crews install new traffic signals and overhead arms at the intersections of Northpark Drive and Mark Dabling Boulevard, according to a statement released by the City of Colorado Springs on Mar. 9.
The lane reduction is part of an intersection safety project that aims to improve traffic flow and safety in the area. The project is expected to be completed by late March.
Motorists are advised to use extra caution due to heavy equipment, work vehicles, and workers present in the area during construction hours. Drivers may want to consider alternative routes if possible in order to minimize travel delays.
Crews plan to remove old traffic signal poles about a week after this phase of work is complete, followed by final tasks needed for project completion.
The median and intersection improvement project began in mid-October. Funding for the $1.96 million effort comes from the Colorado Department of Transportation with additional support from the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority.
