Holy Cross Hospital – Jordan Valley in West Jordan, Utah, has been recognized by two national organizations for its bariatric surgery program. The hospital was named an ACS Surgical Quality Partner by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and received designation as an Aetna Institute of Quality (IOQ) for Bariatric Surgery.

The ACS Surgical Quality Partner status is given to hospitals that demonstrate a commitment to improving surgical procedures and maintaining high standards throughout the care process. This designation indicates that Holy Cross Hospital – Jordan Valley meets rigorous requirements set by the ACS, following accreditation through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). The MBSAQIP is a nationwide initiative focused on ensuring safe and effective metabolic and bariatric surgeries, with research showing that accredited centers have lower complication rates compared to non-accredited facilities.

The hospital also earned Aetna IOQ status by consistently providing safe and effective care. Aetna evaluates hospitals based on quality and cost metrics, helping members identify facilities that meet specific health needs.

Catherine Beck, MD, chief of surgery at Holy Cross Hospital – Jordan Valley, commented on the recognition: “We are excited to receive both of these recognitions for the quality surgical services available at our hospital. Our bariatric surgery program is just one of the many areas of surgical excellence at Holy Cross Hospital – Jordan Valley. The American College of Surgeons has long been the gold standard for determining surgical quality.”

She added: “We are also extremely honored to be named an Aetna Institute of Quality for Bariatric Surgery. These two designations are not only very meaningful to our hospitals and surgeons, but also a powerful signal to the community that they can receive the highest quality surgical care here.”

Additionally, Holy Cross Hospital – Jordan Valley has been recognized as part of the Blue Cross Blue Distinction program.

Patricia L. Turner, MD, MBA, FACS, Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer of ACS said: “ACS Quality programs are grounded in more than a century of experience and participation is an important measure of a hospital’s surgical quality. As an ACS Surgical Quality Partner, Holy Cross Hospital – Jordan Valley has shown a commitment providing the best possible patient care, evaluating that care in a rigorous fashion, and dedicating themselves to continuous self-improvement.”
