The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced overnight closures on Interstate 25 at Colorado Highway 7 next week to allow for the installation of concrete girders for a new pedestrian bridge. These closures are part of CDOT’s I-25 & CO 7 Interim Mobility Hub project.
Northbound I-25 at CO 7 will be closed from 8 p.m. on Monday, December 8, until 5 a.m. the following morning. Southbound I-25 at CO 7 will be closed during the same hours on Tuesday, December 9. Lane restrictions will begin with a single lane closure at 8 p.m., followed by a double lane closure at 9 p.m., and full closure of I-25 starting at 11 p.m. each night. During these times, traffic will be detoured via the CO 7 exit and entrance ramps (Exit 229). Drivers should expect slower traffic and delays while traffic control personnel manage flow and safety on the ramps and highway. All lanes are expected to reopen by 5 a.m.
If weather conditions do not permit work as scheduled, the closures may be moved to December 10 and December 11.
According to CDOT, closing I-25 overnight “allows the work zone to be expanded for the construction team and allows the traveling public to safely travel through the area.”
The girder installation marks an important stage in this mobility hub project, which began in March of this year. The main elements include constructing a Park-and-Ride lot in the southeast quadrant of the interchange, building Bustang slip ramps, installing a pedestrian bridge over I-25, and adding a permanent water quality pond. The completed hub is intended to enhance regional connectivity and mobility while providing more reliable transportation options and improving travel times.
Project completion is expected in fall of next year.
