To facilitate ongoing construction at the Interstate 25 and US Highway 50B Interchange in Pueblo, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and SEMA Construction will implement a series of overnight closures on I-25. These closures are necessary to safely demolish the existing US 50B bridge over I-25.
According to CDOT Regional Transportation Director Shane Ferguson, “Removal of the US 50B bridge over I-25 is integral to advancing the I-25/US 50B interchange project. The closures are required to ensure the safety of work crews and the traveling public.”
Starting November 7, both northbound and southbound lanes of I-25 at Exit 100A will be closed nightly. Detours will be in place for motorists. For those traveling southbound on I-25, drivers should use Colorado Highway 47 (Exit 101), continue on CO 96, then take Santa Fe Avenue and 13th Street (Exit 99B) to return to southbound I-25. The ramps at 29th Street will also be closed, with signed detours available.
Northbound travelers should exit onto eastbound US 50B (Exit 100A) and then use CO 47 (Exit 318) to access northbound I-25. Access at the interchange remains limited to only northbound on- and off-ramps until substantial completion of the project. Motorists are advised to use CO 47 for connections between US 50B and I-25.
The construction schedule depends on weather conditions; if delayed by weather, work may be rescheduled for November 10 through November 14.
Work began on this $114 million project in December 2024. During construction, five new bridges will be built along with retaining walls, noise barriers, roadway reconstruction, ramp improvements, embankment work, safety upgrades, drainage systems, and erosion control measures. Upon completion—expected in early summer of 2027—the new interchange will operate as a diverging diamond design located just north of its current location. This is intended to improve traffic flow and provide safer driving conditions.
