The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Midwest Territory and District 77 held the 25th Annual Guide Dogs of America (GDA) Charity Golf Tournament, known as the “John Massetti Memorial,” in Minnesota this past Sunday. The event drew fifty-six golfers and raised over $15,000 for Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines. Raffle prizes at the tournament totaled more than $5,000, supported by contributions from sponsors and supporters.

The tournament was first organized by John Massetti, a member of Local 1833. Massetti started the event to provide an alternative to GDA’s traditional motorcycle fundraisers, aiming to unite members on the golf course for charity. Although Massetti passed away two decades ago, IAM District 77 and Local 1833 have continued his efforts annually.

IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli expressed appreciation for those involved: “I want to thank everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to come out and support Guide Dogs of America,” said Cicinelli. “It’s because of the dedication and hard work of our members, our retirees, and our volunteers that this event continues to be such a success.”

Andrew Peltier, IAM District 77 Directing Business Representative, commented on the significance of the tournament: “This tournament is more than just a day on the golf course,” said Peltier. “It’s a powerful way to honor John Massetti’s legacy and make a real difference in the lives of those who rely on Guide Dogs of America. The commitment and generosity of everyone involved is truly inspiring.”

For twenty-five years, IAM members have gathered for this annual event to raise funds supporting guide dogs and service dogs for people in need.
