A group of leaders from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), led by Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli and Chief of Staff Vinny Addeo, visited the Quaker Oats facility in Cedar Rapids. The delegation was received by the Local 831 (District 6) Shop Committee to observe the plant’s production systems and discuss the role of IAM members at the site.
The Cedar Rapids location is recognized as the world’s largest cereal mill, producing Cap’n Crunch cereals among other products.
“This tour offered an invaluable perspective on the commitment and skill our members bring to their work every day,” said Cicinelli. “Seeing the scale of operations and hearing directly from rank-and-file members strengthens our resolve to continuously advocate for fair wages, safe working conditions, and a seat at the table in shaping the future of labor at Quaker Oats.”
During their visit, IAM representatives addressed key topics with union members such as workplace safety protocols, training opportunities, and economic priorities. These discussions are part of ongoing efforts to enhance union representation within major employers like Quaker Oats.
Union members also shared their views on operational challenges and opportunities at the facility. The conversations highlighted the importance of union solidarity and leadership involvement ahead of upcoming contract negotiations. Collaboration with other unions present at the site, including SMART and BCTGM, was noted as contributing to collective strength among workers.
