The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) New Mexico State Council held a meeting in Ruidoso, New Mexico, bringing together union members from across the state. The gathering focused on organizing efforts, legislative engagement, and improving communication among local unions.

John Dyrcz, President of the IAM New Mexico State Council and member of Local 794, opened the event by emphasizing collaboration and commitment to the labor movement. Dora Cervantes, IAM General Secretary-Treasurer, provided an update on the state of the union, highlighting recent contract wins and national campaigns supporting workers’ rights. Cervantes encouraged delegates to continue strengthening IAM’s tradition of advocacy.

Robert “Bobby” Martinez, General Vice President for the Western Territory, addressed issues affecting federal employees and contract workers. He discussed IAM’s ongoing efforts to secure fair pay and workplace protections for these groups.

Richie Johnsen, Air Transport Territory General Vice President, spoke about current air transport campaigns and negotiations with airline carriers. He stressed that successes in one division can benefit the entire organization.

Josh Hartford, Special Assistant to the IAM International President for the Rail Division, reported on challenges facing the rail industry. He also noted that this was Local 331’s first participation in a state council meeting.

Additional speakers included Loren Almeroth, Assistant Legislative and Political Director, and DeLane Adams, Assistant Communications Director.

Reflecting on the weekend’s activities, NMSC President John Dyrcz said: “Our state council meeting went great. Over the past two days, we laid down a strong foundation for the 2026 election cycle and updated our bylaws to make sure we have solid ground for picking labor-friendly candidates and next year’s elections. I want to see continued participation, and I hope some new individuals will volunteer to give their time and talents to state council leadership. My message for our delegates is to stay engaged, activate, agitate, and organize.”

Delegates concluded the meeting with renewed focus on building union strength through solidarity and action across New Mexico.

The current officers of the NMSC are:
– President: John Dyrcz (Local 794)
– First Vice President: Art Pardo (Local 2515)
