The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is inviting its members to participate in the upcoming Spanish-language Organizing I class at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center in Hollywood, Maryland. The course is scheduled for December 14–19, 2025, and is open to all IAM members and staff assigned by their General Vice President (GVP).

Fluency in Spanish is not a requirement for enrollment, but having some understanding of the language is considered beneficial. The IAM highlights that as the workforce grows more diverse, offering classes in multiple languages helps ensure that all workers and potential members are effectively represented.

According to the IAM, “The Spanish Organizing I Class is designed to equip participants with the skills and strategies necessary to organize groups of workers and win stronger contracts. Using real case studies from IAM organizing campaigns, the course focuses on developing effective communication and messaging, as well as understanding the key elements of a successful organizing plan.”

Course participants will cover topics such as strategic campaign components, one-on-one communication techniques, issue-based organizing methods, identifying and recruiting internal organizing teams, countering employer opposition campaigns, crafting effective messages using essential organizing language, and building alliances with community partners and labor allies.

IAM locals or districts interested in enrolling members or staff are advised to contact their GVP for assignment. For further information about registration or course details, individuals can reach out to the Winpisinger Center by phone at 301-373-8820 or via email at w3leadership@iamaw.org.

The IAM states that it remains committed to providing comprehensive education and leadership development opportunities in English, Spanish, and French. These programs aim to provide every member with tools for growth within both the union itself and the broader labor movement.
