Members of IAM Union Local 696 (District 19) Rail Division at the CSX Bryan Park roadway shop in Richmond, Virginia, described on April 2 their work in rebuilding heavy machinery through a detailed process involving teardown, fabrication, and complex electrical and hydraulic assembly.
The work done by these union members is important for ensuring that rail equipment operates safely and efficiently. Their efforts help maintain the reliability of machinery used across rail lines.
According to the IAM members, their approach to craftsmanship is thorough. They said that every step—from dismantling old components to fabricating new parts and assembling intricate systems—requires skill and attention to detail. The workers take pride in delivering high-quality results.
Fellow union operators commented on the performance of the rebuilt equipment, saying it functions like a “Cadillac” when it returns to service on the rail lines. This statement highlights the confidence they have in their work’s quality.
The ongoing efforts at Bryan Park reflect broader trends within industrial labor unions focused on maintaining standards and supporting critical infrastructure.
