The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM Union), representing 600 members, has announced its opposition to the current nominations for key positions at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). The union is calling on the U.S. Senate to halt consideration of Crystal Carey for General Counsel and Scott Mayer and James Murphy for NLRB Member roles until Gwynne Wilcox is reinstated.

Wilcox, who had been reconfirmed by the Senate in September 2023 with bipartisan support for a term that was set to end in August 2028, was removed from her position by President Donald Trump. The IAM Union contends this firing was both unprecedented and illegal.

In a letter addressed to U.S. Senators, IAM Union International President Brian Bryant stated: “As I’ve stated before, the IAM urges President Donald Trump to reverse the unprecedented and illegal firing of NLRB Member Wilcox, restore the Board’s independence, and protect workers’ rights.” He continued, “The NLRB, with Board members from both political parties, is crucial to the rights of our nation’s private-sector workforce, and without this balance, enforcement of the National Labor Relations Act cannot occur in a fair or impartial way.”

The union maintains that bipartisan representation on the Board is necessary for fair enforcement of labor laws.
