Inmarsat Maritime announced on Mar. 25 that its NexusWave solution has received the Maritime Mobility Innovation Award at the MSUA 2026 Satellite Mobile Innovation Awards. The company said NexusWave is designed to address the evolving connectivity needs of the maritime industry by bonding multiple networks simultaneously, allowing vessels to maintain seamless and reliable communications at sea.
The recognition highlights advancements in maritime digital operations and crew welfare, as reliable internet access becomes increasingly important for both operational efficiency and quality of life on board ships.
According to Inmarsat, NexusWave can deliver aggregated download speeds up to 340 megabits per second and upload speeds up to 80 megabits per second during sea trials. The service offers unlimited data, secure infrastructure, and more than 99.9% availability even in high-demand areas. This supports a range of applications such as cloud-based services, cybersecurity controls, remote support, and real-time ship-to-shore data exchange.
NexusWave also aims to meet expectations that seafarers should have digital access similar to what they experience on shore. It enables high-quality video calls, streaming services, and social connectivity—features intended to improve crew well-being and retention while supporting compliance with evolving maritime labor requirements.
Gert-Jan Panken, General Manager and Vice President of Inmarsat Maritime, said: “It is an honour to receive the MSUA Award for a solution that is redefining how vessels and their crews stay connected at sea. Representing a step change beyond traditional network switching models, Inmarsat’s multi-network bonding capability is unique in the maritime market. NexusWave is an experience-driven service designed around operational outcomes and crew satisfaction, with embedded cybersecurity capabilities that strengthen vessel resilience and protect critical operations, which is increasingly important in today’s landscape.”
Customers using NexusWave include shipping companies such as Evergreen, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Anglo-Eastern, Caribe Tankers, EXMAR among others. The solution can be scaled from individual ships to global fleets with integration options for new satellite capacity as it becomes available.
