Construction continues on Garden of the Gods Road in Colorado Springs as the city works to improve safety at intersections near Interstate 25. Beginning as early as Monday, Nov. 10, crews will expand their work to the east side of I-25.

The project includes installing new traffic lights at Northpark Drive and Mark Dabling Boulevard to enhance safety for both drivers and pedestrians. According to city officials, the first phase of construction will temporarily reduce eastbound lanes on Garden of the Gods Road by at least one lane. The second phase will similarly affect westbound lanes. During rush hours, multiple lanes will remain open; however, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., only one lane may be open in each direction. Drivers are advised to expect short delays and pay attention to signs and changing traffic patterns.

This portion of the project is expected to last about eight weeks, with work scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays.

The need for these improvements stems from a high number of crashes in this area between 2015 and 2020: there were 64 crashes at Northpark Drive (25 involving injuries) and 81 crashes at Mark Dabling Boulevard (32 involving injuries and one fatality).

Funding for the $1.96 million project is provided by the Colorado Department of Transportation, with additional support from the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority. More information can be found at ColoradoSprings.gov/GOGmedians.
