The Colorado Springs City Council appointed Ken Casey to the vacant District 2 seat during a special meeting held on April 6. Casey received the required majority of eight votes following nominations and a single vote by council members.

This appointment fills the partial term for District 2, which is set to expire in April 2027. The decision addresses the immediate need for representation in District 2 after the previous seat became vacant.

Casey will be sworn in as District 2 Councilmember at the start of the Work Session on April 13, according to city officials. After this twelve-month appointment, a two-year term for District 2 will appear on the ballot during the April 2027 Municipal Election. At that time, Casey would be eligible to run for re-election.

Starting in April 2029, elections for the District 2 seat are expected to return to their standard four-year cycle. This process ensures continuity and adherence to established election schedules within Colorado Springs’ local government.

The appointment provides stability and continued representation for residents of District 2 until regular elections resume.
