The City of Colorado Springs announced on Mar. 27 that lane closures and left turn restrictions will start on Monday, March 30 at 9 a.m. along 8th Street as part of an ongoing infrastructure project.

The changes are expected to impact traffic for about twelve weeks while crews replace a water main under the roadway. These adjustments are intended to maintain safety for both workers and motorists during construction.

According to the city, the center lanes of 8th Street south of Motor City Drive will close, with additional lane restrictions north up to Abbot Lane. Left turns between 8th Street and Motor City Drive will not be allowed during this period. Northbound lane closures will shift traffic onto the east lane up to Abbot Lane, but one lane in each direction will remain open.

Detours have been established: Southbound drivers wishing to turn left onto Motor City Drive should use Automotive Drive and then Motor World Drive before continuing on their route. Those coming from Motor City Drive who want to head south on 8th Street should also use Motor World Drive and Automotive Drive as alternate routes.

The Mountain Metro bus stop in front of Walmart on northbound 8th Street will be temporarily relocated just north of Abbot Lane, in front of the Shell gas station. The city said more traffic impacts are expected in about six weeks as work moves further north along the street; details about those changes will be provided closer to that time.

Access to local businesses remains available with clear signage throughout construction. The city asks drivers “to slow down and use caution around work zones.” For updates or more information, residents can visit ColoradoSprings.gov/8thstreet.
