Lane closures are set to begin on Monday, January 19, along the 8th Street corridor in Colorado Springs. The closures will affect both directions of 8th Street from U.S. Highway 24 to Motor City Drive and are expected to continue into February.

The northbound right lane of 8th Street will close at 9 a.m., starting about 400 feet south of the Fountain Creek bridge and extending to the eastbound Highway 24 frontage road. This closure is planned for approximately four weeks while crews work on rebuilding sidewalks, driveways, and other roadway features.

According to project officials, “When this phase is complete, the northbound turn lane to the eastbound Highway 24 frontage road will reopen. Eastbound traffic from 8th Street is currently detoured one block north to US Highway 24.” The westbound frontage road from Highway 24 to southbound 8th Street will remain open during construction.

There will also be short duration lane closures on southbound 8th Street from Highway 24 to Bear Creek as crews locate utilities beneath the street. These closures will move along southbound lanes throughout the day and are expected to last several days before shifting work and temporary closures to northbound lanes between Motor City Drive and Highway 24.

Crews plan additional utility location work between US Highway 24 and Cucharrras Street on 8th Street. Access to local businesses will remain open with clear signage throughout construction, though minor slowdowns may occur during peak travel times. Drivers are encouraged not to block business driveways during these periods.
