For more than 20 years at CU Boulder and 10 years at CU Denver, the Learning Assistant (LA) model has been used to strengthen classroom learning by enabling students to act as peer mentors and instructional leaders. With support from a CU Next system award, this model is now being expanded across the University of Colorado system, including at UCCS.

The LA model combines faculty development with student leadership to transform courses using research-based teaching methods. It provides students with opportunities to deepen their understanding, build confidence, and help their peers. This approach aims to create a collaborative learning environment that supports student success in various disciplines and on different campuses.

A video has been released showing how the Learning Assistant model is changing at CU and its ongoing influence on teaching and learning.
