Rebecca Green, the state executive director of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Colorado, emphasized the importance of planning sober transportation and fostering community partnerships to prevent impaired driving during Halloween. This statement was made in a press release.
“Halloween weekend should be about kids, costumes, and sweet memories—not heartbreak for Colorado families,” said Green. “With children and teens out trick-or-treating, there’s no excuse for getting behind the wheel while impaired. These crashes are 100% preventable. If you plan to drink, plan ahead for a safe ride home — lives depend on it.”
According to a press release, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Uber, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), and the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) have launched a 2025 Halloween campaign across the Denver area aimed at reducing impaired driving. The initiative includes discounted Uber rides under the code “SPOOKYCO25.” The campaign is part of a broader effort to remind Coloradans to plan ahead for a sober ride, with a focus on preventing impaired driving crashes and keeping children and pedestrians safe over the Halloween weekend.
CDOT reports that Halloween is one of Colorado’s most dangerous periods for DUI incidents. In 2023 alone, there were over 200 DUI arrests during this enforcement period, following 134 in 2022 and 202 in 2021. Preliminary data for 2024 indicate that there have been 203 impairment-related traffic fatalities statewide, accounting for roughly 30% of total roadway deaths. These figures underscore the ongoing need for prevention efforts.
Evaluations by CDOT and the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) on Uber voucher programs reveal broad participation but limited causal data on crash reductions. In 2023, CDOT’s partnership funded 7,638 safe rides across nine campaigns. In 2024, the “DUIs Are Scary” initiative distributed 1,000 $7 vouchers during Halloween enforcement. Agencies are tracking voucher use and arrests but have not yet published formal impact studies.
According to CBS News Colorado, Green serves as the State Executive Director of MADD Colorado. She leads partnerships with CDOT and CSP on impaired-driving prevention while overseeing victim support services, legislative advocacy, and statewide education campaigns. Green frequently appears at DUI enforcement events and recognition ceremonies that highlight public safety collaboration.
According to MADD Colorado and CDOT, Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s mission is to end impaired driving, support victims and survivors, and prevent underage drinking through education, advocacy, and partnerships with law enforcement. The organization works alongside CDOT, the Colorado State Patrol, and Uber to promote sober driving and raise awareness about the dangers of alcohol- and drug-impaired driving through statewide public safety campaigns and community outreach.
