Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade has presented the Spirit of Colorado Springs Celebration Awards to Martin Wood and Carlos Jimenez, recognizing their significant contributions to the community.

Martin Wood, who serves as Senior Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Emeritus at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS), was honored for his long-standing service to both UCCS and education in the region. During his tenure, UCCS obtained more than $320 million in funding and increased its endowment close to $100 million. The university also expanded through public-private partnerships and projects such as UCCS Downtown and the Lyda Hill Institute for Human Resilience, while becoming a leader in cybersecurity across Colorado.

“Wood’s unwavering commitment to UCCS and the Colorado Springs community has transformed our local educational landscape and set a standard for what true community dedication looks like,” said Mayor Yemi. “He has inspired countless individuals through his visionary leadership and profound belief in the power of collaboration and has dedicated his life to creating opportunities with future generations.”

Carlos Jimenez received recognition for his work supporting students’ academic advancement and investing in the city’s future. Jimenez is associated with Peak Education, an organization focused on student success. He has 15 years of experience in college admissions, having held leadership roles at Colorado State University Fort Collins and Colorado College. His service includes leading the Rocky Mountain Association for College Admission Counseling (RMACAC) as president, chairing committees within the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), chairing boards such as Atlas Prep Board and Teach for America Colorado Regional Board of Directors, as well as participating on several other community boards.

“In his role with Peak Education, Carlos embodies the very spirit of our city with his exceptional contributions through service, mentorship, and leadership,” said Mayor Yemi. “Through his commitment and work in education, including our local school districts, he uplifts lives and opens doors for countless students, ensuring a brighter future for our community.”

The Mayor’s Office continues to recognize residents whose leadership motivates others through these awards. Honorees are chosen by either the mayor or an official designee based on their influence within Colorado Springs.
