Mayor Yemi of Colorado Springs responded to the conclusion of the federal government shutdown, which had been the longest partial shutdown in U.S. history. In a statement, Mayor Yemi addressed how the end of the shutdown would affect local residents and services.

“I am encouraged by the actions taken by Congress and the President to end the longest partial government shutdown in U.S. history. For our residents in Colorado Springs, we are relieved that SNAP benefits will restart soon, we are thankful that federal employees are returning to work and getting paid, including those who support our military, and we are confident that flight operations at the Colorado Springs Airport will resume normal operations,” Mayor Yemi said.

The mayor’s comments highlight relief for recipients of SNAP benefits, federal workers—including those supporting military operations—and expectations for restored airport activity.
