Microchip Technology has introduced its Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, an AI-powered platform designed to help embedded engineers access product data more efficiently. The MCP Server acts as an interface between AI tools and large language models, enabling these systems to answer questions using up-to-date and verified Microchip public data such as product specifications, datasheets, inventory status, pricing, and lead times.

The MCP Server operates on streamable HTTP standards and provides context-aware, JSON-encoded responses that are optimized for various AI clients. These include copilots, chatbots, LLM-based integrated development environments (IDEs), and enterprise AI agents. This integration allows developers to access essential information directly within their preferred development environments or intelligent assistants.

Rich Simoncic, chief operating officer for Microchip Technology, stated: “The launch of our MCP Server is another example of how Microchip is leaning into AI and providing AI-based tools that help make life easier for our customers. We’re dedicated to harnessing the power of AI to boost productivity and drive innovation. By enabling instant access to verified product information within the AI platforms developers already rely on, we’re removing barriers and making it easier to design with Microchip solutions.”

According to the company, combining technical details with sourcing information through the MCP Server can increase design productivity by streamlining automation processes. It also helps engineers make informed decisions more quickly during development.

The server is available at no cost and can be accessed via http://www.microchip.com/en-us/resources/model-context-protocol-server.

Microchip Technology supplies semiconductors for a range of markets including industrial, automotive, consumer electronics, aerospace and defense, communications, and computing. The company offers a broad portfolio of products along with support resources throughout the design process.
