Motorists in southwest Colorado are being advised to watch for increased bicycle traffic from August 18 to 22 as approximately 175 cyclists participate in the annual Colorado’s Ride event. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the Colorado State Patrol have issued this notice ahead of the five-day tour, which will take riders along highways and county roads between Silverton and Wolf Creek Pass.

“This is the third year of welcoming Colorado’s Ride to our region, and we want to make it another safe and successful event for all roadway users. Please, always make a point to limit distractions, stay alert and follow the speed limit,” said Transportation Director Julie Constan.

No highway closures are planned during the event. However, drivers should be aware that cyclists will be present on several major routes each day between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., including US Highway 550, US Highway 160, CO 151, CO 172, and various county roads connecting Durango, Silverton, Pagosa Springs, and Wolf Creek Pass.

The specific schedule includes:
– Monday: US Highway 550 from Durango to Silverton
– Tuesday: US 550, US 160, CO 172 & several county roads around Durango
– Wednesday: US 160 and CO 151 from Durango to Pagosa Springs
– Thursday: US 160 from Pagosa Springs to Wolf Creek Pass
– Friday: US 160, CO 151 and CO 172 returning from Pagosa Springs to Durango

Further details about course times and locations can be found on Colorado’s Ride Course Description Webpage.

CDOT works with CSP and event organizers each year to promote safety for both motorists and cyclists during Colorado’s Ride by encouraging responsible travel behavior and adherence to traffic laws.
