Overnight lane and ramp closures are planned this week on Interstate 25 in Lone Tree, Douglas County, as part of ongoing construction for a new mobility hub. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced that these closures will allow crews to set permanent barriers and re-stripe interstate lanes in preparation for building a pedestrian bridge over the highway.
Drivers traveling through the area should expect traffic to be reduced to one or two lanes during the overnight hours, with all lanes reopening before the morning commute. CDOT advises motorists to follow posted speed limits, maintain safe following distances, and remain alert for workers and equipment along the roadway.
The original closure schedule was adjusted due to recent rain. The updated timeline is as follows:
On Wednesday night, September 24, triple lane closures will take place on northbound I-25 between Castle Pines Parkway and Ridgegate Parkway. The first lane will close at 6 p.m., followed by additional lane closures at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., reducing traffic to a single lane. At 10 p.m., the northbound I-25 off-ramp to Lincoln Avenue will close, with drivers directed to detour via East County Line Road and southbound I-25 toward Lincoln Avenue. Additionally, the westbound Ridgegate Parkway on-ramp to northbound I-25 will close at 10 p.m., with a detour using South Peoria Street north to Lincoln Avenue before accessing northbound I-25. Speed limits in this section will be lowered to 65 miles per hour. All affected lanes and ramps are expected to reopen by 6 a.m. Thursday.
On Thursday night, September 25, double lane closures are scheduled for southbound I-25 from C-470 to Ridgegate Parkway starting at 7 p.m., eventually reducing traffic to one lane. Both westbound and eastbound Lincoln Avenue on-ramps to southbound I-25 will also close—at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively—with drivers detoured east on South Peoria Street, then south on Ridgegate Parkway before returning west to access the I-25 on-ramp. Speed limits in this direction will be reduced to 55 miles per hour. All southbound lanes and ramps are set to reopen by 6 a.m. Friday.
During these nights, crews will also re-stripe both northbound and southbound lanes into new configurations ahead of upcoming median work.
Additional closures affecting both directions of I-25 are scheduled for Sunday night, September 28.
“Motorists are urged to heed the speed limit, give plenty of following distance, and watch for crews and equipment,” according to CDOT.
These measures aim to facilitate construction activities while maintaining safety for both workers and drivers passing through the area.
