Pikes Peak Region prepares for national and state milestone celebrations in 2026

In 2026, the United States will mark 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, while Colorado will celebrate its 150th anniversary as a state. These dual milestones offer an opportunity for reflection on history and community in the Pikes Peak Region.

History Colorado has gathered statewide resources and events to encourage participation from visitors, residents, and businesses. Locally, a committee has created guidelines for how people and organizations in the Pikes Peak Region can join in commemorating these anniversaries.

A new initiative, the Colorado Passport Program, allows participants to sign up for free mobile passes that reward exploration of towns, cultural sites, and local businesses across Colorado. Businesses interested in joining can do so at no cost by completing a form.

Several other significant anniversaries are also being recognized in 2026. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo will celebrate its centennial. Founded by Spencer Penrose in 1926 and later established as a public trust for recreation, education, conservation, and scientific purposes, the zoo plans special programs throughout the year.

The Colorado Springs Philharmonic is set to launch its ’26-’27 season, marking 100 years since its first performance. The organization will highlight American composers during this milestone season.

Dragonfly Paddle Yoga will observe its tenth season offering paddle board yoga and excursions led by owner Christine Malmborg.

Labor Day Lift Off will reach its 50th annual event in September 2026. Originating as a small gathering in 1976 under the name Colorado Balloon Classic, it has grown into one of the largest balloon events nationally.

Colorado Springs’ Olympic City USA brand marks ten years since its creation in 2016. The city now hosts more National Governing Bodies of Sport than any other U.S. city along with several Olympic-related institutions.

Theatreworks is celebrating fifty seasons of performances at the Ent Center for the Arts. According to Theatreworks, it has produced more uninterrupted seasons than several well-known theaters including Oregon Shakespeare Festival and London’s Globe Theatre.

“Celebrate our communities and look to the future together,” states organizers about these collective milestones.

Southbound I-25 closures in Colorado Springs scheduled for April 16 through April 19

The Colorado Department of Transportation has announced multiple southbound I-25 lane closures in Colorado Springs from April 16 through April 19 due to repair work. The Colorado Department of Transportation reports continued overnight closures this week on northbound CO Highway 157 at Pearl Street in Boulder due to ongoing repairs. Drivers should expect delays up to fifteen minutes with detours in place until April 20. Uniformed officers will help manage traffic during these periods.

Viasat and Vueling have introduced free high-speed Wi-Fi on over 80 aircraft starting October 2025. The service aims to boost customer satisfaction through enhanced connectivity using the European Aviation Network platform.
